Adsorption of copper on iminodisuccinic acid modified attapulgite: characterization and mechanism

Heavy-metal ions are common pollutants in wastewater and thus attracting considerable attention. Herein, an eco-friendly biodegradable adsorbent, iminodisuccinic acid (IDS) modified attapulgite (ATP) is prepared by graft-polymerization to reduce Cu(II) water, referred as IDS-ATP. The equilibrium adsorption capacity of IDS-ATP for increased 329.5% 272% compared with raw ATP non-degradable chelator ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid-modified (EDTA-ATP), respectively. Moreover, the capacities combined system 186% single system. structure surface properties characterized, demonstrating that IDS moieties anchored on without structural damage. In aqueous (64 mg /L), best pH 5.0, dosage 800 mg/L, time 4 h. chemical regenerated adsorbent still exhibits high capacity. mechanism includes coordination amino groups Cu(II), chelation -COOH heavy metals (HMs), ion exchange. Taking example study process it beneficial apply this degradable material other HMs.
